Housing policy in most of European cities has to deal with rising house prices, shrinking rental markets, reduced social provision, and greater social inequalities in access to affordable housing. Housing has thus come to require, for a large share of population, a very serious financial effort, beyond the reach of many. Public policies, on the other hand, are under stress in most of Europe, due to financial pressures and the retreat of social housing. LPS researchers have been analysing housing policies in an attempt to assess their redistributive impact and their financial and social sustainability, and have been highlighting innovative policies aiming to improve access to affordable housing.
