Since two decades profound chances occur in the metropolitan area of Milan. <\/span>The city is living significant contrasts: a competitive cluster in the global network, as well as a place where living is more and more difficult. Transformations are so relevant that they are disorienting citizens, politicians and experts. In the past, the city has shown a great ability to absorb and exploit to its advantage the tensions<\/span> <\/span>that accompany the<\/span> <\/span>typical<\/span> <\/span>stages<\/span> <\/span>of transition<\/span>. Today, however, while other European cities are experiencing a phase of renaissance, Milan seems more vulnerable, covered by uncertainty and concerns about the future, with expectations of worsening. The city experiments a permanent loss of population and aging, besides an increasing of economic disparities between citizens and the growing instability of family and work. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Lab conduces from 2006 an extensive research on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce of Milan, producing an annual Report aimed at analyzing the situation from different points of view. The Report contributes every year to enrich the debate over the city and the challenges Milan has to face, in order to reconcile a sustainable urban development with a better quality of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
