This book is the result of our long-lasting interest and research in social care policies, as well as our shared experience in promoting and chairing an international network of scholars from various disciplines and policy fields, all united by an interest in ‘Transforming Care’ issues, (www.transforming-care.net). The exchanges and collaboration with members of this network, fostered through our biennial conferences and numerous meetings, have provided a solid foundation for this endeavor.
At a certain point, we recognized the need to synthetize the diverse analytical contributions, critical ideas, and research findings that had accumulated over the years, with the aim of developing a more comprehensive and integrated theoretical and conceptual framework. In recent decades, social care policy has not only emerged as one of the most innovative areas within welfare policy but has also garnered significant attention from both welfare scholars and policy makers. We believe the time has come to present a collective work that offers a foundational knowledge of this complex, dynamic and increasingly institutionalized policy field.
