Western societies have traditionally been regarded as a secure, stable area where downside risks are mitigated by the stability of the labour market, strong family ties and a robust welfare state. However, over the last decades, these protective mechanisms have weakened, leaving populations increasingly vulnerable.
Given this background, LPS research focuses on the analysis of the spread of the phenomena of economic insecurity (identified as threats to the household’s financial sustainability), drivers of the growing vulnerabilities of individuals and families, and policies mitigating poverty and insecurity risks.
