Inclusive Ageing in Place
The project addresses the issue of frailty among older people and the associated risks of social isolation. The increase in average life expectancy, coupled with a rise in the prevalence of disabilities and chronic illnesses, necessitates a renewed focus on the challenges of “inclusive” ageing, particularly the risks associated with ageing at home. The aim of the research is to propose actions and strategies to improve the quality of life for frail older individuals, fostering safer and more serene ageing in their own homes.
The research draws on data from surveys and analyses conducted in three regional contexts (Lombardy, Marche, Calabria), which are significantly different in their social, economic, and cultural characteristics. The three research units involved in the project operate in various urban and non-urban settings within their respective geographic areas. They analyze the conditions of elderly residents (aged 75 and over) by examining the numerous variables that contribute to marginalization and neglect.
The findings compare the different conditions observed (diversities and similarities) and the territorial specificities that lead to differentiation between local contexts and regions.
