The “Inclusive aging in place – IN-AGE” project addresses the issue of the frailty of elderly people and the related risks of social isolation. The raising of the average age, accompanied by an increase in the risks of suffering from forms of disability and chronic diseases, gives a new attention to the problem of ‘inclusive’ aging and, in particular to the risks of aging at home.

The aim of the research is to propose possible actions and strategies in support of improving the quality of life of the frail elderly people and of a more safe aging in their own home. The research will be based on the data resulting from the survey and analysis activities that will be carried out in three regional contexts (Lombardy, Marche, Calabria) which are strongly different in social, economic and cultural terms. The three research units involved in the project (Polytechnic, INRCA and University of Calabria) will operate in different urban and extra-urban realities of the respective geographical contexts, identifying the conditions of the older inhabitants (over 75 years) through the analysis of the multiple variables that they can cause marginalization and abandonment. The various conditions detected (diversity and similarities) and the territorial specificities that contribute to the differentiation between local contexts and between regions will be compared.
